Ben Currie inquiry adjourned again

Saturday 11 August 2018, 9:06am

The inquiry into alleged illegal activities at trainer Ben Currie's Toowoomba stables is unlikely to be completed before the end of the month.

Stewards originally charged Currie with 31 offences arising mainly out of a raid on his stables on the morning of the feature Weetwood Handicap meeting at Toowoomba on April 7.

Three of those charges have been dropped and he now has to answer 28.

The inquiry was set to resume at Queensland Racing Integrity Commission headquarters on Monday but the QRIC says it has been adjourned.

"It will now resume on a date to be set after QRIC responded to a request to provide further materials to Currie's legal representatives," a QRIC spokesperson said.

No time limit has been set for the resumed inquiry but it is understood Currie's lawyers will need at least a week to respond and then QRIC has to answer the further submissions.

Currie's father, a licensed trainer and stablehand, Mark Currie, is training on a stay after he appealed a disqualification arising out of the raids.

Three other Currie staff members have either been suspended or disqualified as a result of the investigation.
