Cobalt positive for Laming-trained horse

Friday 6 July 2018, 8:44am

A horse trained by Richard Laming has returned an elevated cobalt level with Racing Victoria stewards continuing their investigation.

Laming was told of the irregularity on June 20 and on Thursday was told of the confirmatory findings of the sample taken from Iam Ekstraordinary before his fifth placing in a 1200m maiden at Ballarat on May 23.

Racing Analytical Services Limited detected cobalt at a mass concentration greater than 200mcg per litre in urine while The Racing Science Centre Laboratory confirmed the high level in the reserve portion of the sample.

Cobalt is a prohibited substance above 100mcg/L in urine according to the rules of racing.
