Desleigh Forster chases two centre double

Thursday 5 July 2018, 1:52pm

Veteran galloper Someday has trialled well enough to boost trainer Desleigh Forster's confidence she can have a two-centre double in two days.

On Friday, Forster will be in Rockhampton where she thinks smart sprinter Too Good To Refuse has a top chance in the $100,000 Newmarket.

She will be back in Brisbane on Saturday when Someday tackles the Open Handicap (1640m) at Doomben.

Someday was well beaten first-up in the Listed Spear Chief Stakes at Caloundra on June 2.

Forster scratched him from the Mumm Stakes at Doomben three weeks ago and had planned to take him back to the Sunshine Coast last Saturday.

Instead Forster took Someday to the barrier trials at Doomben where he was an impressive winner last week.

"It was a solid hit-out and he was too good over 1000 metres for a handy trial field," Forster said.

"It should have him ready for Saturday and the track should have some give in it which will suit him."

Someday is unbeaten at 1600m at Doomben with his best win over the trip in the $300,000 Bernborough Stakes in December last year.

New Zealand jockey Mark Du Plessis will have his first ride on Someday and Forster believes he will suit the veteran galloper.

"Mark rode a winner for me at Ipswich recently and he is a very experienced jockey," Forster said.

A multiple Group One winning jockey Du Plessis has been riding in Brisbane for the winter and tossing up whether to make the move permanent.

James Orman, who had a treble at Caloundra last Saturday, will ride Too Good to Refuse in the Rockhampton Newmarket.

"It is a city standard race but the big long straight should suit my horse," Forster said.

Too Good To Refuse is a $7 chance in the Newmarket with Niccanova at the head of the market at $2 on race eve.

Someday is a $10 chance in early markets with the Religify the TAB's $3.30 favourite on Thursday.
