Godolphin's Thunder Snow wins French G1

Monday 10 July 2017, 6:23am

Thunder Snow has won the Group One Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly to erase memories of his Kentucky Derby antics.

A Group One winner at two, the Godolphin-owned colt has been placed in the Irish 2000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes this season but took no part in the Kentucky Derby in May after bucking at the start.

He was at his best on Sunday with Christophe Soumillon dictating affairs from the outset.

The previously unbeaten Trais Fluors made a late charge but Thunder Snow still had 1-1/4 lengths on his rival.

"After Ascot he has felt good and this race was there for him. The plan was to make the running as we wanted a good pace for him," trainer Saeed Bin Suroor said.

"There are three races we have in mind for him for the future. There is the Juddmonte (International) and the QEII and the Prix Jacques le Marois in France."

Thunder Snow is a son of Australian triple Group One winner Helmet who stands at Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stud.
