Tiara Star ruled out of Millions Classic

Friday 13 January 2017, 1:49pm

First emergency Tiara Star will not be allowed to start in the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic even if there is a scratching after being found to be lame.

But odds-on Magic Millions Guineas favourite Winning Rupert easily passed a fitness inspection on Friday.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards and veterinarians put Tiara Star on notice on Thursday after inspecting all runners for the Classic and Magic Millions Guineas.

Vets and stewards again inspected four horses on Friday and found three were fit to race but Tiara Star was not.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said Tiara Star would not be permitted to race with Sydney colt invader now be first into the field should there be a scratching. .

"Tiara Star was found to be sore on flexion in the near fore fetlock after examination on Tuesday, Thursday and again this morning," Reardon said.

Reardon said Winning Rupert, Miss Wonderland and Pipeline, who are all in the Guineas, had been cleared to run after an inspection on Friday.

Initial inspections found Winning Rupert, the odds-on favourite, and Pipeline were short striding in forelegs while Miss Wonderland was slightly lame also in a foreleg.

Winning Rupert's trainer Bjorn Baker said it was nothing unusual as the colt usually had filling to build up his shoe.
