Brisbane Race Club officials are tight-lipped about the future of two managerial staff after the Melbourne Cup day blackout at Eagle Farm.

The Eagle Farm course was blacked out between 1pm and 3pm meaning punters were unable to watch the Melbourne Cup live on television.

The remaining five races at Eagle Farm were delayed and the meeting did not finish until 5.30pm.

The BRC and electricity supplier Energex have begun an investigation into the reasons behind the failure.

However, the BRC has refused to comment on whether two senior managerial staff have left the club in the wake of the failure.

"I can neither confirm nor deny that," BRC chairman Neville Bell told AAP.

It is understood the issue regarding the two staff members was regarding whether a back-up generator was in place on Tuesday.

Preliminary investigations have shown it was not on course.

It is further understood one staff member left the club on Wednesday and a second is likely to have his contract restructured.

BRC sources said the club was likely to make a statement regarding the staff after the investigation was completed.
