Chaquinta continues metro winning spree

Wednesday 14 September 2016, 4:17pm

Chaquinta's meteoric rise from the picnic circuit to triple metropolitan winner could make her final start a Group race.

The mare continues to delay her career as a broodmare and won again at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

She backed up midweek wins at Warwick Farm and Canterbury in August to make it three straight in the Tab.com.au Handicap (2400m).

Queanbeyan trainer Joe Cleary completed his initial task of winning a picnic race with Chaquinta at Orange in January.

The in-form mare is now set for a crack at the Group Three Colin Stephen Quality at Rosehill on September 24.

While a major step up in grade, jockey Tommy Berry, who has ridden her at every start during the winning sequence, says she deserves a chance to earn black-type.

"She's going to the breeding barn anyway so you may as well give her a crack," Berry said.

"The boys have got her in great form and full credit to them."
