Josh Parr escapes injury in car accident

Wednesday 3 August 2016, 4:38pm

Jockey Josh Parr has walked away mostly uninjured from a car accident on his way to a Coffs Harbour race meeting.

Parr told AAP he was driving in pouring rain on Wednesday when he drove into a pool of water at the bottom of a hill and his car was sent spinning out of control and into an embankment about 50 kilometres south of Port Macquarie.

He then smashed into the steel highway divider, which spat him back onto the road.

"Luckily the cars were far enough behind me to slow down and avoid me," Parr said.

Although his car is a write-off, Parr got away lightly.

"I'm a little bit stiff in my neck and shoulder, maybe a little bit of whiplash, but I'm good," he said.

To add insult to injury, the Coffs Harbour meeting was washed out.

"I'm usually one to get annoyed in situations like this but to be honest I'm just relieved that it's all done and dusted, that I'm walking away from it," he said.

Parr only returned to race riding late last month after a long lay-off because of hip surgery.

He will rest up on Thursday ahead of Friday's meeting at Wyong and Saturday at Randwick where he is listed to ride Suboric for trainer Gerald Ryan and Typhoon Jolie for Peter and Paul Snowden in race eight.
