Sagaronne program up in the air

Having scratched Sagaronne from a rain-drenched Eagle Farm, trainer Toby Edmonds now has a dilemma with the Group One-placed filly.

Sagaronne was second to Press Statement in the 2015 Group One J J Atkins Stakes but has had a few problems since and has not won as a three-year-old.

Edmonds was convinced she was back near her best when she finished fourth to Sold For Song in the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes at Eagle Farm on June 25.

Sagaronne was well backed to win Saturday's Three-Year-Old Plate (1500m) but was a late scratching when the track went from a soft five to a heavy nine.

"It was no use sending her around in those conditions. There is a 1600 metre QTIS bonus race in a fortnight which we were looking at but it would be a month between runs," Edmonds said.

"I will just have to see what is around for her before making a final decision."

He is hoping to eventually aim Sagaronne at the Stayers Cup on Magic Millions day in January.

In the absence of Sagaronne, stablemate Mr Epic won the Plate in a slogging finish from Sanguine Red.

"He is a very honest horse and that was the third QTIS bonus race he has won. You would like to have a few more like him," Edmonds said.

Meanwhile, promising two-year-old Guard of Honour will be spelled after being scratched from the Eagle Farm meeting.

The Kris Lees-trained gelding was withdrawn because of a high temperature on race morning after being scratched from a race in Sydney a week earlier because of a wet track.
