Epsom more likely target for Silverball

Sunday 20 September 2015, 5:51pm

Silverball has been taken out of the market for the Group One Metropolitan with trainer Chris Waller signalling his intention to instead run him in the Epsom Handicap.

The gelding firmed to equal favourite for the Metropolitan (2400m) after his dominant win in the Kingston Town Stakes last weekend.

Although Waller will not confirm the Epsom as Silverball's mission until early this week, he has firmed from $26 to $15.

"I am going to make a final decision on Monday or Tuesday of this week," Waller said.

"I want to have good look at him and see if he is fit enough to run 2400 metres."

Waller produced He's Your Man to win the Kingston Town (2000m) 12 months ago before he took out Randwick's feature mile race of the spring.

"He's probably not as sharp as He's Your Man but I think it (Epsom) could be the better option," Waller said.

The Epsom and the Metropolitan are both run on October 3.

The Waller-trained Winx is the $4.50 favourite for the $1 million Epsom following her last-to-first win in the Theo Marks Stakes at her first start since she won the Queensland Oaks.

"Winx might have an exhibition gallop at Rosehill on Saturday if the track is OK," Waller said.

"She has done very well since the Theo Marks and we might just give her a work-out on race day to tune her up."
