Bloods normal for Godolphin's Rose flops

Wednesday 16 September 2015, 2:52pm

The results of blood tests taken from Godolphin colts Shards and Holler following their disappointing performances in the Group One Golden Rose have revealed no abnormalities.

Racing NSW stewards spoke to trainer John O'Shea at Canterbury on Wednesday and confirmed swabs from the pair showed nothing to explain their performances.

"Everything seems to be OK from a clinical point of view," steward Greg Rudolph said.

O'Shea said the two horses had been monitored closely since Saturday's race, won by barn mate Exosphere, and the stable had been unable to find anything amiss.

Holler, who finished last in the Golden Rose, will be fitted with a tongue tie and will have a barrier trial on Friday week.

O'Shea was particularly concerned by Holler's agitated behaviour and plans to take him to the midweek meeting at Warwick Farm next Wednesday to see how he copes with the race-day experience.

Shards finished second last and O'Shea told stewards he felt the horse was ridden contrary to his usual forward-racing pattern and may have felt the firm track.

He will push on with Shards' campaign in the Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday week and said the colt would be ridden more positively.

The results of urine samples taken from Shards and Holler are due back next week.
