Teronado to stay in Brisbane for next run

Monday 14 September 2015, 1:39pm

A year after an injury suffered in the George Main Stakes almost ended his career, Teronado will continue his comeback at Doomben.

Trainer Bruce Hill and managing owner Steve Foster considered a return trip to Sydney for the Group One George Main on Saturday but opted to keep him in Brisbane for his third run since he was hurt.

Teronado, a placegetter in Criterion's 2014 Rosehill Guineas, was stripped on a hind leg and needed several hours surgery but a long spell seems to have helped him recover.

The gelding ran an eye-catching third over 1350 metres second-up at Doomben on September 5 and will step up to 1640 metres on Saturday.

With Glen Colless suspended, Foster said premier Brisbane jockey Jim Byrne was the choice.

"We have approached Jim (Byrne) to ride Teronado on Saturday at Doomben. He should suit the horse at this stage," Foster said.

"We will then look at something like the Craven Plate over 2000 metres at Randwick on October 3.

"Another option for Teronado is the 2000 metre race at Caulfield on Caulfield Cup day. We will probably keep him to second tier races this campaign."

Colless is expected to regain the mount on Teronado after his suspension is completed.
