Kinglike impresses with Danehill victory

Saturday 12 September 2015, 3:24pm

Owner-breeder and Racing Victoria chairman David Moodie has had a lot of good horses over many years.

Kinglike might be the best of them after a Group Two win at Flemington on Saturday.

The colt had Moodie speaking in glowing terms after the Danehill Stakes (1200m).

Ridden by Glen Boss, Kinglike ($12) scored by 1-1/4 lengths from Raphael's Cat ($6.50) with the favourite Ready For Victory ($3.30) a head away third.

Kinglike was beaten on debut at Caulfield before scoring at Moonee Valley in late May but since the break he has taken that next step.

"We've been suspicious for about a month now the horse was going to take the next step," Moodie said.

"He'll be a better horse in six weeks time in the Coolmore but he did display today what we hoped to see."

Moodie said Kinglike was likely to head to the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington without another run.

He said that decision would be left to trainer Peter Moody who maintained a media silence at the Flemington meeting.

"He's a stallion prospect now and it's management thing," Moodie said.

"I don't think I've ever had a horse to manage as a stallion before.

"It's what a breeder wants to achieve, a colt like this."

Crystal Lily supplied Moodie with a Golden Slipper success in 2010 and he said the majority of his best horses had been fillies, mares and geldings.

Boss said he first teamed with Kinglike a month ago.

"He's got amazing ability and he's still got so much maturing to do but he's got so much power and he does it with so much ease," Boss said.
