Petit Filous scores second Valley success

Saturday 1 August 2015, 1:30pm

Ciaron Maher will chase black type with the unbeaten filly Petits Filous after her victory at Moonee Valley.

The daughter of Street Boss progressed from a midweek Moonee Valley win to take out the United Refrigeration Handicap (1000m) on Saturday.

Maher said the filly would now head to Caulfield in two weeks for the Group Three Quezette Stakes.

Ridden by Damien Oliver, Petits Filous was backed from $1.65 to $1.40 before scoring a soft two-length win over Stream Ahead ($31) with Grisbi's Run ($51) 2-1/4 lengths away third.

Maher said he would be guided by Petits Filous' performance in the Quezette before deciding her immediate future.

"It's her first prep and she's going well, but it's a balancing act," he said.

"She's showing good ability now but you want to keep developing them so that they show their best."

Oliver said the filly was heading in the right direction, saying she is up to stakes class.

Jockey Dean Yendall was lucky to escape serious injury after landing on his back after The Big Dance ($5) ran through the running rail after the finishing post and collapsed.

Trainer Danny Curran said The Big Dance appeared OK after the incident but he plans to spell her and bring her back for the autumn.

"The vet said her heart rate is OK but we'll have her thoroughly checked out and give her some TLC," Curran said.

"She's quite distressed and badly winded."

Curran said he was surprised how quickly the filly stopped in the straight after sharing the lead before finishing fourth.
