Stream Ahead out to remain unbeaten

A measure of trainer Doug Harrison's opinion of Stream Ahead was that he ventured to Sydney to buy the filly's younger sister at a yearling sale earlier this year.

Stream Ahead resumes in the first city race of the season at Moonee Valley on Saturday and Harrison is looking forward to the daughter of Dane Shadow stepping out for her second start.

The rising three-year-old won on debut at Bendigo in April by two lengths and Harrison is hoping she will measure up to stakes races for three-year-old fillies during the spring.

"She has always showed quite a deal of ability and we probably got a good guide (before her debut) through Parcel," Harrison said.

Harrison said Stream Ahead came up against Parcel in a jumpout and while Parcel finished a length ahead, he said there was about 10 lengths to the next horse.

Parcel came out and broke the 900m course record at Bendigo on debut last December.

Stream Ahead didn't make her debut until April, but also notched a maiden win at the same track when scooting along in the lead.

Before that, Harrison bought Stream Ahead's full-sister in Sydney for $34,000.

"Knowing this filly went well I went up and bought her sister," Harrison said.

The trainer was considering sending Stream Ahead to Adelaide for a Listed race in May but felt the filly had trained off a little at that stage and was going through a growth spurt.

"So I tipped her out and I'm glad I did," he said.

Harrison said Stream Ahead has come back well and he's looking forward to her return.

The United Refrigeration Handicap (1000m) for three-year-old fillies has attracted a field of eight but it includes debut winners The Big Dance and Petit Filous, as well as stakes winner Haybah.

There are five last start winners in the race.

"You always hope they can go on and run in some nice three-year-old fillies' races," Harrison said.

"This will be a good stepping stone on Saturday because it's quite a handy field."

Harrison said the Group Three Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield two weeks after Saturday would be the logical next step if Stream Ahead can perform well.
