Gai Waterhouse is banking on Damien Oliver's experience at Royal Ascot to help Wandjina star on the international stage.

Oliver partnered Magnus during his three-start UK campaign in 2007 which included a King's Stand Stakes placing at the famous track.

The jockey has arrived in England to prepare for his ride on the Waterhouse-trained Wandjina in Saturday's Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and a clash with fellow Australian sprinter Brazen Beau.

Having watched the first two days of the Royal Ascot meeting, Waterhouse is happy to have a jockey with big-race experience to ride at a carnival she says has "the best racing in the world".

Oliver's preparations will include reacquainting himself with the unique Royal Ascot course before Saturday's race.

"Ascot is a very undulating course. It's quite firm at present, we haven't had much rain here in England for the past few weeks," Waterhouse told Sky Sports radio.

"Damien arrived in England today and he's going to walk the course on Friday."

Wandjina has not raced since he was narrowly beaten by Dissident in the All Aged Stakes at Randwick in April.

Waterhouse said the colt had acclimatised well since his arrival in England and had rounded out his Diamond Jubilee preparations with a strong 600m gallop on Wednesday.

"He's really settled in, surprisingly so because he was quite a looking-around young colt but he's not that now, he's a mature three, rising four-year-old," she said.

"He's very settled, very mature, a totally self-contained colt. I'm very happy with him going into the race."
