Lumosty gains Stradbroke start

Friday 5 June 2015, 10:32am

Reigning Stradbroke Handicap favourite Lumosty has gained a start in the $2 million race with the scratching of Lord Of The Sky.

The Robert Smerdon-trained filly was the first emergency but gained a start on Friday after travel problems on the way from Melbourne to Brisbane took their toll on Lord Of The Sky.

The Robbie Laing-trained four-year-old was scheduled to fly but had been unable to be loaded on the plane.

He then began the long trip by float but hurt his hoof when he pulled a plate off when he was taken off the truck mid-journey.

"He half took off and whether there was heavy sand there, but he's pulled a plate off and ripped the inside bulb of his off-front apparently," Laing said.

Lord Of The Sky, runner-up in the TJ Smith Stakes in Sydney during the autumn, will now be prepared for early spring races.

The Group One Stradbroke (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday is Brisbane's premier sprint.
