Hijack Hussy work points to Guineas win

Thursday 8 January 2015, 2:17pm

A solid track gallop by Magic Millions Guineas favourite Hijack Hussy has trainer Tony Gollan confident she is at her best for Saturday's race.

Gollan has a quarter of the field in the $1 million race on the Gold Coast with Hijack Hussy, Fixation, Vienna Royale and Yeager.

Hijack Hussy has been ruling favourite for race for the past month after two unlucky minor placings in the Mode Stakes and Vo Rogue Plate.

The filly won at Flemington in the spring and Gollan believes she is back near that form.

"Her work on Tuesday showed me she is as good as I can get her," he said.

"She got further back than we wanted last time after getting chopped out at the start.

"She handles dry tracks and is very good in the wet. She deserves to be favourite."

Tim Bell will retain the ride on Hijack Hussy after Michael Rodd, who won on the filly in the spring, was unable to take the mount.

"Michael couldn't get the right flights (from Singapore) to get him here in time but Tim will get the job done," Gollan said.

Gollan doesn't want an extremely wet track for Fixation who was the top qualifier for the Guineas on the strength of a black-type win in the winter.

"This time he has drawn a good barrier which might make a difference," Gollan said.

Vienna Royale was an impressive last-start Doomben winner and Gollan has no doubt he will run a strong 1400m.

The gelding ran sixth in the Magic Millions Classic last year when ridden by Chris Munce.

"Nothing much has gone right for him during his career and he has always had class about him," Gollan said.

"He had no luck in last year's two-year old race and it might be his year this time."

Yeager, who will be ridden by Munce, has been disappointing this campaign although he did win a Deagon barrier trial and had no luck in the Vo Rogue Plate.

Gollan is hoping Munce, who will be having his second last ride in a race, can produce some magic on Yeager from barrier three.
