Sadler back a winner after fall

Wednesday 10 December 2014, 5:53pm

Apprentice Tom Sadler has landed a winner at his first meeting back from a sickening fall.

Sadler was riding Massiyn at Moonee Valley on November 29 when the horse collapsed and fell after suffering an apparent heart attack.

The jockey was concussed but cleared of any other injuries and was given the go-ahead to resume riding last Friday.

Indentured to his trainer father John, Sadler partnered Back To Life to a 1-1/4 length win at his third ride at Sandown on Wednesday.

"I had some really nice rides for my first day back," Sadler said.

"To get a winner on the first day is good."

Sadler said it had taken a little time to get back into trim following his enforced holiday.

He rode trackwork on Saturday morning and continued riding work since to get the weight off.

"I got a little heavy with all the drips they put into me," Sadler said.

"With the time off it has taken a couple of days to get back into it, so the more race riding and trackwork I can do, the better."

Sadler Snr said it was good to see his son bounce back after the nasty fall but he was also pleased to see Back To Life get another win on the scoreboard.

"It's really good to see Tom bounce back but it's also good for the owners of this horse," Sadler senior said.

"I've been telling them for a while that he goes all right and he hasn't been displaying it, although he's been running OK.

"I thought with the blinkers on that he'd improved in his work and he's going to keep improving also."
