Moloney team in top form for Sandown bid

Tuesday 9 December 2014, 2:22pm

After training six winners from his past 11 starters, Caulfield trainer John Moloney is looking to continue his run of form on Wednesday.

Moloney has three runners - all last-start winners - engaged at Sandown.

Cool will contest The Cove Hotel Handicap, Seattleite in the Schweppes Handicap and Act Of Valour the Sportingbet Powered by William Hill Handicap.

Moloney's nephew, in-form apprentice Patrick Moloney, will partner Cool and Act Of Valour with Luke Nolen to ride Seattleite.

Seattleite is the most experienced of the three gallopers having raced 15 times while Cool and Act Of Valour have had just four runs between them.

Moloney has a good opinion of Cool but thinks the gelding may be heading for the paddock after Wednesday's outing.

"I expect him to run well in this race and as he matures further I think he's got a good future," Moloney said.

"How much I keep him going after this run I don't know.

"I may turn him out after this run rather than push him on and on and then we may look at bringing him back for the late autumn.

"He doesn't need to be pushed around too much."

Act Of Valour comes to town after a debut win in maiden grade at Moe on November 25 and Moloney believes he's suited in the benchmark 64 race.

"His was a promising win in a maiden at Moe," Moloney said.

A winner of three races, Seattleite comes to town for the first time following a win at Bendigo on November 26.

Placement of horses in their right race is the secret to winning races and Moloney's team has been in sparkling form of late.

"You've got reasons why you run them somewhere," Moloney said.

"It might not always be a winning race but hopefully they're going in the direction of getting into a winning race."
