Tom Sadler fit for race-riding return

Friday 5 December 2014, 5:39pm

Apprentice Tom Sadler is set to return to race riding next week after passing a cognitive test on Friday.

Sadler returns to trackwork on Saturday morning and has been booked to ride the Clinton McDonald-trained Break The Moment at Wangaratta on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old has been sidelined after Massiyn collapsed from an apparent heart attack in the final event at Moonee Valley last Saturday, giving the young rider a heavy fall.

"I had the concussion test for the second time this week at Racing Victoria this morning and that was done under the supervision of Ron Hall," Sadler said.

"After that I had to go in and have a chat with Gary Zimmerman, the RVL doctor who oversees everything, and he said I was right to go and start trackwork but to give myself a couple of days before starting race riding."

Sadler said it will be good to have a few good gallops at Sandown on Saturday morning "to get the eye in" rather than just canter a few around at Caulfield.

He said it had been a hard week as he just was starting to build some momentum and the fall forced him to forego some good rides.
