Sandra Hughes has gained an emotional first Grade One triumph with Lieutenant Colonel at Fairyhouse just two weeks after the death of her famous father Dessie.
Having registered her first success with a licence just 24 hours earlier, Hughes was back in the winner's enclosure after the Hatton's Grace Hurdle.
She was granted a licence following the death of her father, a former jockey and successful trainer in Ireland.
The turning point of the race came when the hot favourite Zaidpour fell, bringing down King Of The Picts at the halfway stage.
"It was always Dad's plan to stay over hurdles with him this year. He was beaten first time over fences so we decided to give him an extra year over hurdles," Hughes said.
Paddy Power put Lieutenant Colonel up as a 25-1 chance for the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, scene of so many of Dessie Hughes' triumphs.
