Bad knees couldn't stop Kaiser Sun from maintaining a perfect second-up record at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Giving Chris Symons a winning double along with providing co-trainers Mathew Ellerton Simon Zahra two winners, Kaiser Sun ($7) scored a three-quarter length victory over Straturbo in the Tony Beddison Cup.

Ellerton said Kaiser Sun rarely visited the training track and when he does it's only under the guidance of former apprentice Tom Campbell.

Multiple surgery has kept Kaiser Sun to just 10 starts and he now has five wins and three placings to his credit.

Because of his problems he's not the easiest of horses to train and Ellerton said a lot of the credit must go to Campbell.

"He's one of the fastest horses we've got," Ellerton said.

"We work around him. We don't gallop him. He trots, he canters. He swims and goes to the races.

"It's a case of what could've been I reckon if he was sound."

Symons, who won the Corey McDonald Handicap (1200m) on Catch That Cat, said Kaiser Sun presented at the races on Saturday a fitter horse.

He was coming off a first-up second at Moonee Valley on November 14 when he peaked on his run.

"He's a tough bugger that's been through a lot with his knees and I suppose the StrathAyr (surface) helps," Symons said.
