Racegoers at Rosehill have stopped to pay their respects to Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes.

The batsman died on Thursday from a catastrophic brain injury suffered when he was hit in the neck by a ball two days earlier.

Tributes have been held all over Australia with junior cricketers and other sportsmen joining the general public in honouring the 25-year-old.

Jockeys in NSW also wore black armbands in remembrance and two bats were displayed as part of the global twitter tribute #putoutyourbats.
