Highway journey worth it for Wonderbolt

Saturday 28 May 2016, 1:21pm

Apprentice Koby Jennings has come out on top in a battle with country champion Greg Ryan for a significant win at Randwick.

Jennings urged the Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones-trained Wonderbolt ($3.60) to a half-length win over the favourite Star Shaft ($3.20) in the Highway Handicap (1100m).

"I was apprenticed to Barbara and Paul for about a year before I came to town and this is the first metropolitan winner I've had for them," Jennings said.

"I probably rode about 30 winners for them but it's good to get a Saturday win in town for them.

"They are wonderful people and have got this horse going well because I understand he had a few problems earlier."

Joseph and Jones were not on hand to see the win but showed their appreciation, tweeting pictures of the cheer squad from Doomben where Just A Blur was engaged in the Glenlogan Park Stakes.
