Rampage Sydney bound after debut victory

Saturday 28 November 2015, 3:05pm

Rampage has paid back his purchase price with victory at Moonee Valley and will now chase further riches in Sydney.

The David Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained two-year-old heads to Randwick on December 12 for the $500,000 Inglis Nursery, a sales-restricted race for two-year-olds over 1000m.

Caught wide under Luke Currie, Rampage ($6.50) finished gamely to score a long-head victory in Saturday's John Paraskevas Plate over Giroux ($10) with Legerity ($5) a length away third.

A $20,000 yearling by All American, Rampage will benefit from the experience according to Hayes.

"This was a bit of a trial to see if he would go up there," Hayes said.

"He invited himself, so he'll be going.

"I'll give him that race and then back off him, but with 500,000 dollars up for grabs and an in-form horse, you have to go for it."

Hayes was unsure what to expect with a field full of first starters as there were some big wraps on a number of the other youngsters.

"He hasn't been overly schooled to get here so there's improvement to come," Hayes said.

"His father won on debut at the Valley and it might have been an omen.

"Hopefully he's a good as his dad."

Currie picked up the ride aboard the colt with Lindsay Park regular riders taking a break or, in Michael Walker's case, preparing for hip surgery.

And Currie doesn't expect to be riding the two-year-old when he heads to Sydney.

"I would like to but there's probably a few others that will be putting their hands up," he said.
