Fawkner scratched from Memsie Stakes

Wednesday 26 August 2015, 4:32pm

Star galloper Fawkner has been scratched from the Memsie Stakes but will still make an appearance at Caulfield for an exhibition gallop.

Fawkner came up with barrier 18 in a capacity field of 16 plus four emergencies for Saturday's Memsie Stakes (1400m) and was later scratched.

With Fawkner out, the Darren Weir-trained first emergency Stratum Star has gained a start in the first Group One race of the Australian season.

Fawkner, winner of the 2013 Caulfield Cup and runner-up in last year's Cox Plate, is scheduled to gallop before the opening race on Saturday.

The Chris Waller-trained Boban is the $4.80 favourite for the Memsie Stakes with Volkstok'n'barrell at $8.50 ahead of Hi World and Weary at $9.
