Craig Williams is pinning his Caulfield and Melbourne Cup hopes on Hokko Brave, confirming he has been booked to ride the Japanese horse this spring.
Eight-year-old Hokko Brave finished third in the 2014 Group One Tenno Sho-Spring in Japan and was sixth in this year's renewal in May at his most recent start.
"It was confirmed last night and I'm really looking forward to riding him," Williams said.
"He's an exciting Japanese ten furlong to two mile horse. He hasn't won a big race so you'd think he would sit well in handicaps."
Williams said Hokko Brave's Tenno Sho performances convinced him to secure the Cups ride on the horse.
"I chose him on his last two years in the Tenno Sho," Williams said.
Hokko Brave has won five of his 29 starts.
His trainer Yasutoshi Matsunaga was in Melbourne last month inspecting the facilities at the Werribee quarantine centre and at Caulfield and Flemington racecourses.
Fellow Japanese horse Fame Game, who was second to Gold Ship in this year's Tenno Sho, is the Melbourne Cup favourite with TAB at $11 while Hokko Brave is at $21 in both Caulfield and Melbourne Cup markets.
Williams has won two Caulfield Cups but is yet to win a Melbourne Cup.
He needs only a Melbourne Cup victory to join a select group of jockeys to have won a Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup and Golden Slipper during their careers.
