Peeping shows class to win at Rosehill

Saturday 15 August 2015, 2:02pm

Ron Quinton-trained mare Peeping has stormed home late to score an impressive first-up win at Rosehill and set herself up for bigger targets.

Peeping ($1.75 favourite) had to overcome a tough performance from Howmuchdoyouloveme ($20 to $11) to win Saturday's Fairfield RSL Club Hcp (1200m) by a long head.

Jockey Sam Clipperton said it was an almighty effort from the Redoute's Choice mare.

"At the furlong I was worried, but she really wound up in the last 100m and in the end she won quite softly," Clipperton said.

"The leader obviously sprinted hard. She's had to sprint with it and take a lot of ground off it, so she's made up six lengths and they've run home in 33.90 (seconds) or so."

The four-year-old has now won each of her three first-up runs and Clipperton believes she will extend beyond sprint trips this campaign.

"She'll get further, definitely, especially this time in," Clipperton said.

"As long as the tracks stay nice and dry she'll have no dramas running a mile."

Quinton said he was proud of the mare and would now aim her at stakes races against her own sex.

"(Owner) Tom Kelly and myself have already discussed that we probably maybe only give her a light spring, looking to next autumn," Quinton said.

"We'll just take each step at a time at the moment. We haven't got any firm plans for her."

Quinton said an autumn campaign could include a tilt at the Group One Coolmore Classic, a race the trainer won in 2012 with Ofcourseican.
