Melbourne Cup mission for Simenon

Wednesday 8 July 2015, 7:10am

The Melbourne Cup is again on the agenda for Simenon if he can perform well in the Goodwood Cup.

The Willie Mullins-trained gelding ran fourth in the 2013 Melbourne Cup won by Fiorente and owner Nick Peacock is keen to make another trip to Australia.

"It depends on how he gets on, but I certainly wouldn't dismiss it," Peacock said.

"There is only one Melbourne Cup and neither Simenon nor myself are getting any younger!

"If everything goes well between now and then, I think there's every chance he could go back to Australia."

The eight-year-old has two starts since spending almost a year on the sidelines with injury, his most recent a close fourth in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.

Gold Cup winner Trip To Paris, also on a Melbourne Cup mission, is expected to run in the Goodwood Cup on July 30.
