Four stakes races headline Finals Day

Strong fields are expected for Melbourne's major winter race day - Flemington Finals Day - with close to 200 nominations.

Acceptances for Saturday's meeting will be declared later on Wednesday with the highlights including the $150,000 Winter Championship Final and the $150,000 All Victorian Sprint Series Final.

The meeting is the culmination of nine race series held in Victoria during the off-peak racing period in Melbourne.

Heats of the respective series' have been run during May, June and early July.

A total of 195 nominations were taken for the meeting with four of the nine finals carrying Listed status.

They are the Winter Championship Final (1600m), the All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m), the Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) for two-year-olds and the A R Creswick Series Final (1200m) for three-year-olds.

An added interest will be the battle for the Melbourne jockeys' premiership with Dwayne Dunn one win ahead of Craig Williams and Damien Oliver another win behind.

The Flemington program is one of seven metropolitan meetings remaining this season.
