Racing mourns trainer Erwin Takacs

Thursday 21 August 2014, 6:18pm

Kembla Grange trainer Erwin Takacs has died, seven months after he is believed to have been injured in a tragic accident.

The 64-year-old was found unconscious in January when it is thought he may have suffered a blow to the head from a horse using the swimming pool at Kembla Grange.

He was in a coma for an extended period and never fully recovered.

A foreman to Randwick trainer Les Bridge during the late 1980s, Takacs had been at Kembla for two decades.

Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'landys described Takacs as an "expert horseman" renowned for his skill with difficult horses.

"He will be fondly remembered by his friends in racing as a hard worker and always on the lookout for a good horse," V'landys said.

Funeral details are yet to be announced.
