600 wins for Prime Thoroughbreds

Friday 22 August 2014, 8:58am

ON THE TRACK

It was certainly a big day on Wednesday when The Deestructor won at Eagle Farm and Awasita won at Sandown.  It was particularly significant as The Deestructor’s win was the 600th by a horse syndicated by me.  It was appropriate John Thompson who trained The Deestructor was Bill Mitchell’s foreman when I had my first winner with Cautious Lover at Gosford in February 1999.

We have quite a few runners in the coming week including Chief Lord and Tigerish at Taree on Friday; Hijack Hussy at Eagle Farm and Rumeron at Devonport on Saturday; Prime Shadow at Taree on Sunday with Raido at Warwick Farm and Faith’n’Courage lining up at Ipswich on Wednesday.

The wet weather has caused us a few issues but not much we can do about it.

WEANLING SYNDICATIONS

For many years now I have been buying some young horses about this time of the year and syndicating them.  As at 1 August these ‘babies’ became yearlings and we have had wonderful success with these horses.  Some of the ‘weanling syndications’ we have put together include Too Many Reds, Pitt Street, Believe’n’Achieve, Eramor, Believe’n’Receive, Faith’n’Courage and I Am Magic.

Overall the results achieved on the racetrack by this type of syndication have been exceptional and the cost of getting into these generally are about $25,000 to $35,000 below that getting into a comparable yearling 6 months later.

I have included detailed information on the Husson / Blonde Mafia 2013 colt later in this newsletter.  He is a cracker and only 10% remains available in him.

GOOD NEWS

The NSW State Government’s decision to support the continuation of ‘The Championships’ is great news for the industry in general.  I only hope the rain gods are more on our side next year as we really had some dreadful weather for this year’s events.

The increases announced in Brisbane for Queensland racing are overdue but welcome.  Queensland had fallen well behind the other two big states in the past two decades and has unique difficulties with the racing authorities forced to prop up so many amateur clubs.

For example this week there are 15 meetings across the state compared with 13 in NSW and Victoria combined.  Only one of the meetings in NSW and Victoria isn’t covered by the TAB whereas 8 are non TAB meetings in Queensland generating virtually no income for the industry.

ACCOUNTS

It is important you include your name or client id when paying the account through with internet banking.  It takes a lot of time to try and decipher who is paying what at times which is annoying.

Thank you to the vast majority of clients that pay on time.  We have a big commitment to our suppliers and like to pay everyone in a timely manner.

VISIT TO ELLALONG FARM

We will be visiting Kris Lees Ellalong Farm near Cessnock on a Sunday 14 September.  The visit will start from 11 am and then we will head to the Ellalong Pub for a bbq lunch and few drinks.  Kris has done a lot of work at the farm and it is worth having a look at the facilities he has on offer.

They are first class and give Kris’s horses a competitive edge over most of his opposition.  This visit is open to all our clients, not just those with horses with Kris.

Ellalong Farm is at Ellalong about 10 minutes from Cessnock in the Hunter Valley.  I look forward to catching up with many of you.

I will be asking for final numbers in the first week in September so we can pass on these to the hotel for catering purposes.  It should be a great day out.

YEARLING OF THE WEEK

Husson (Arg) / Blonde Mafia colt 2013

HUSSON / BLONE MAFIA COLT

The Colt

This colt is the half-brother to the most expensive yearling I have purchased since I started Prime Thoroughbreds in 1997.  He is a cracking type of colt.  The colt is very strong behind, has a great girth and shoulder and there is a real presence about him.

He is a wonderful walking colt and captured my full attention the moment I first lay eyes on him.  He is a wonderful athlete.  If you compared him to a human athlete you may well be looking at a young Greg Inglis!!

Husson

The colt is by Hussonet’s best son at stud in Husson and is a product of one the most potent crosses in Australia today.  When Hussonet and now his sons are put over Redoute’s Choice mares the results have been amazing.

In total 6 Redoute's Choice mares have had progeny run by Husson. Two stakes winners Hussousa, Affable, two stakes placed Will Be Amazed, Sister Souss (Group 1), one winner Husson Choice and one unplaced in three starts Just Keep Giving.

In total Husson has had 102 winners from 163 to race which gives a great indication of how potent the Husson/Redoute's cross is.

As well Danehill line mares have the stakes horses Peron, Hi Son, Star Of Husson and Little Miss Smily by Husson. There is also a filly Go Again which held the 900m record at Sandown out of a Danehill Dancer mare.

Husson's sire Hussonet also has similar success with the Group 1 winners Reaan, Eagle Falls, Gold Trail and Group and stakes winners Colorado Claire, Miss Darcey, Step it Up, Karacatis, Latin News, Members Joy, Rose Of Peace, Werd, Hussy By Choice, Walk With Attitude, Dirty and Moonlight Hussler coming out of Danehill or his son's daughters.

It should be remember Hussonet came to Australia as a relatively old horse with his first crop of yearlings in Australia being born in 2004. his first crop in Chile were dropped in 1995. He is a super stallion and was brought to Australia by John Messara to be used as a suitable cross with the large number of Danehill line mares in this country.

I have a very good filly with Tony Gollan named Hijack Hussy by Hussonet out of a Redoute's Choice mare. She was a metropolitan winner last season and looks stakes class. The only other Hussonet filly I purchased was the stakes winner Huiskes.

I have raced two Husson progeny, the very good three year olds Husson Eagle and Raido.

Blonde Mafia

Blonde Mafia is by the sensational sire of brood mares Redoute’s Choice finished 3rd on the Broodmare Money List for last season and was the youngest horse in the top 15 in Australia coming up from 75th just three seasons earlier.  He is the real deal in every respect.  This is only her second foal.

Blonde Mafia is a beautifully related mare and comes out of one of John Singleton’s very best families.  She is out of the highly regarded Strawberry Road mare Stawberry Girl, a stakes placed mare with 10 to race for 9 winners including the stakes horses Danroad, Newtown Jet, Tippitaka, Strawberry Boy and Bullmore as well as the multiple Sydney metropolitan winners Joe Blow and Viking Tor.

Finally, I am thrilled to have secured this colt and can’t wait for him to race.
