Traveston Girl stars at Brisbane trials

Thursday 21 August 2014, 2:27pm

Thousand Guineas-bound filly Traveston Girl is likely to head straight to Melbourne to begin her spring campaign after an impressive barrier trial win on Thursday.

Eagle Farm racetrack hosted 19 trials on Thursday before it was officially closed for a $22 million upgrade.

There were some impressive performances but none better than Traveston Girl who scooted over 1000m in 59.87s.

Ridden by race jockey Tegan Harrison, Traveston Girl looked to have something in reserve but still ran the fastest of the nine 1000m heats and was the only horse to break 60 seconds.

Trainer Tony Gollan is favouring sending Traveston Girl straight to Melbourne where she will resume at either Caulfield on September 29 or Flemington a week later.

The filly will be one of at least four horses Gollan will take to Melbourne.

"Alma's Fury will probably run in the Rupert Clarke and Toorak Handicap and maybe the Waterford Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley," Gollan said.

"Traveston Girl's ultimate aim is the Thousand Guineas and my other three-year-old, Looks Like The Cat, is in line for the Caulfield Guineas."

Gollan's veteran Temple Of Boom will also go to Melbourne and be aimed at the major sprints.

Another southern-bound galloper, the Brian Smith-trained Kingdoms, finished fourth in his trial and remains on course for the Newcastle Cup and Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick.

Meanwhile, trainer Robert Heathcote reported triple Group One winner Buffering was back in the stable and did his first serious piece of work on Tuesday morning.

"He is coming along nicely after his break and we have six weeks to get him ready to head south," Heathcote said.
