Well related filly draws wide at Geelong

Wednesday 9 July 2014, 2:11pm

Caulfield horseman Mick Price has a half-sister to dual Group One winner Samaready primed to race but a wide barrier draw could delay her debut.

Price has accepted to run Samartested in Friday's Eco Waste Services Maiden Plate (1200m) but is considering waiting until either Sunday or next Tuesday to start the filly after she drew gate 14 of 14 at Geelong.

"We may have to rethink running at Geelong from the barrier," Price said.

By Testa Rossa out of the dual Sydney winner Samar, Samartested is also a half-sister to the Group Two Karrakatta Plate winner Night War.

Price has also won a city race with another half-sister, the talented Samarmeteors, and the trainer thinks Samartested can also be competitive in city grade in time.

"She's been a bit of a small and immature filly that hasn't shown as much as Samaready obviously," Price said.

"She will win races and we hope she can get to the metropolitan area and be successful."

Samaready has not raced since beating one runner home in the Group One William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on March 21.

The rising five-year-old has been in pre-training at the property of her part owners Vinery Stud in the Hunter Valley after connections decided against retiring the mare.

Samaready will return to Price's stable later this month to begin preparing for spring features.
