Lidari faces biggest test at Moonee Valley

Friday 13 September 2013, 4:39pm

Peter Moody is confident Lidari has the talent to be competitive in Saturday's Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

He just hopes the import's race manners are up to scratch on the day.

Lidari scored his first Australian win with a first-up victory at Caulfield on August 31 in a 1400m handicap, leading home a Moody-trained trifecta.

Moody has done plenty of work trying to get the horse to settle in his races since he arrived in Australia, and the import faces his biggest test in the Group Two weight-for-age contest at Moonee Valley.

"He's trained on well," Moody said.

"Up to weight-for-age is always an ask but it just comes down to his mentality in the race. He's just got to settle to give himself a chance.

"If he does that he'll run well."

Melbourne's premier trainer will use the 1600m Group Two event to give him a guide on where to head with Lidari this spring.

Lidari is nominated for all the big races - Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, Melbourne Cup and even the Epsom Handicap in Sydney.

"It's a race where you look to lift your rating to see if you're worthy of going to the better-class races," Moody said.

Lidari, a multiple Listed winner in France, faces a field which includes Australian Cup winner Super Cool, last year's winner Happy Trails and Melbourne Cup runner-up Fiorente.
