McGillivray suspended for Doomben Cup ride

Saturday 19 May 2018, 5:21pm

Jockey Matt McGillivray has been suspended for 13 days for causing interference in the Group One Doomben Cup.

McGillivray was having his first ride in a Group One race on Abbey Marie who ran fourth.

He pleaded guilty to causing interference to Egg Tart and Satono Rasen on the turn going out of the straight the first time.

He was suspended from next Saturday night and can resume at the Stradbroke Handicap meeting on June 9.

Brad Stewart has been suspended for a month on a reckless riding charge.

Stewart pleaded guilty to causing interference on Unlikely Story to Chaffeur and Champ Elect shortly after the start in the Japan Racing Association Plate.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said they considered the interference worse than careless riding and charged him with reckless riding.

Stewart was suspended from May 21 and can resume riding on June 23.
