Trainer Clinton Garland outed over cobalt

Sunday 29 April 2018, 10:02am

Central Queensland trainer Clinton Garland has been disqualified for 18 months after being found guilty on a cobalt-related charge.

Stewards opened an inquiry after the Racing Science Centre found cobalt in a post-race urine sample taken from Bonino who won at Rockhampton on June 10, 2017.

After hearing submissions from Garland and his legal representative Peter Boyce, stewards charged Garland with bringing a horse to race with a prohibited substance.

At a resumed inquiry, stewards found Garland guilty and disqualified him for 18 months.

Garland is the fourth Queensland trainer in the past six months to be disqualified on a cobalt -charge.

He has the right to seek an internal review within seven days.
