Melbourne satellite stable for Snowdens

Sunday 13 August 2017, 2:34pm

The expansion of Peter and Paul Snowden to include a stable to Flemington is a natural progression for the father and son training team.

After leaving his position as head trainer for Sheikh Mohammed's Darley operation in 2014, Peter Snowden went into partnership with his Paul, planning to have a boutique stable at Randwick.

It hasn't quite worked out that way with the two in such demand they have one of Sydney's biggest operations and a host of Group One winners.

In the Darley days, Paul ran the Melbourne stable but Peter Snowden said they had yet to decide whether to establish Flemington as a permanent fixture.

"At the moment it's a satellite stable and we will have 15 to 20 horses there for the spring carnival," Snowden said.

"We've got 30 boxes and we'll work out in the new year whether it will be set up as a permanent base.

"It will be good to have our own base rather than have to stay with others."

Hawkes Racing, Chris Waller and Gai Waterhouse all operate stables in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Among the first wave of horses to travel down the Hume Highway will be Group One winners Russian Revolution and Redzel.

Russian Revolution won the Galaxy in the Sydney autumn while Redzel claimed his top level win in the Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane.

Both will be aimed at the Group One Moir Stakes with a return to Sydney for the $10 million Everest a possibility.
