Dual Derby winner Camelot could reappear in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 18.

Aidan O'Brien's star, who narrowly failed to lift the triple crown last season, is one of 32 entries for the one mile (1600m) event.

It would represent a significant drop in distance from the St Leger when Camelot met with his first defeat.

Jockey Joseph O'Brien feels the Leger distance was too far and believes he will be much more at home over shorter this season.

"He was never really the same horse after the Irish Derby as he was before it," O'Brien told At The Races.

"He had colic after the Arc and things just didn't go 100 per cent right for him in the second half of the season.

"He went nicely at the Curragh and hopefully he can come back and show the sort of horse that he is.

"I think a mile and a mile and a quarter will be right up his street.

"His defeat at Doncaster hit a lot of people hard. I think the trip really stretched him.

"He seems nice at home. He's just been doing half-speeds like he did at the Curragh so he seems to be in very good form."

Declaration Of War, Most Improved, Nephrite and Reply could also represent Ballydoyle.

Godolphin have impressive Meydan winner Sajjhaa and Farhh among their options, with Elusive Kate, Beauty Parlour, Cityscape and Trumpet Major also nominated.
