Trainer Jim Cerchi Jr fined $1500

Thursday 29 June 2017, 11:32am

Victorian trainer Jim Cerchi jr has been fined $1500 over the application of Chest Rub Ointment to the nostrils of a horse on race day.

Cerchi authorised the ointment, which is comparable to Vicks VapoRub, to be applied to six-year-old gelding Petrov on the day he was due to race at Pakenham on June 8.

Petrov was a late scratching by stewards from the Pakenham race.

Cerchi did not have permission of stewards to administer, or cause to administer, any medication to the horse on race day and pleaded guilty to a charge on Thursday.
