Monday 22 May 2017, 11:48am

Melbourne Cup winner Americain has sired his first Australian winner with Geegee Blackprince's success in the Tasmanian Sires' Produce Stakes.

The Stuart Gandy-trained Geegee Blackprince upset his stablemate Gee Gee Lanett to win Sunday's 1400m-race for two-year-olds at Launceston.

Geegee Blackprince is the ninth foal from Paul and Elizabeth Geard's broodmare La Quita, the mother of Tasmanian pin-up Geegees Blackflash.

Americain, winner of the 2010 Melbourne Cup for French trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre and his Australian owners Gerry Ryan and Kevin Bamford, stands the southern hemisphere season at Victoria's Swettenham Stud.
