As a prolific stallion, as a sire of sires, as a broodmare sire, Redoute’s Choice has reshaped breeding and racing in Australia. So the question beckons, who is the best bred son of Redoute’s Choice to ever stand at stud?

Kitchwin Hills are pleased to announce that Group winning and multiple Group 1 placed sprinter Counterattack will retire to stud this season following his Brisbane Winter campaign. Subsequently, an exciting opportunity for breeders presents, as the last Redoute’s Choice stallion who hailed from a Snippets mare to go to stud was the record breaking Snitzel.

The multiple Group 1 placed Counterattack, is also a ¾ brother to two Group 1 winners and probably goes to stud with a better pedigree than Snitzel when he retired to stud. Snitzel’s pedigree has subsequently been enhanced predominantly via his exciting Group 3 winning sire brother in Hinchinbrook, Snitzel's prowess as a sire is obviously mesmerising.

Counterattack, a winner at 2, is a Group 3 winner who at 3 was placed when 3rd at Group 1 level down the Flemington straight in the stallion making Coolmore Stud Stakes. He has subsequently run second 5 times at Group level including a fast finishing last start 2nd to Redzel in the Doomben 10000, Group 1.

The family is inundated with speed as evidenced by his Redoute’s Choice sire line, his Snippets dam line, his Group 1 Galaxy winning brother in Shellscrape and his much admired, tough as nails multiple Group 1 winning sister in Red Tracer. It has been some time since a son of the game changing Redoute’s Choice went to stud with a pedigree like this.

The Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (Formerly BTC Cup) is Counterattacks next assignment, and then likely onto the Group 1 Stradbroke at Eagle Farm, before retiring to Kitchwin Hills this season. With two outstanding runs this preparation, both close second’s behind Redzel in both the Group 2 Hallmark stakes, and the Group 1 Doomben 10,000. Counterattack is a son of Redoute’s who has gone on with it after revealing himself as an exciting 2yo.

Kitchwin Hills Stud Manager Michael Malone said the opportunity to stand a stallion of this quality, which was born on the property for long time clients Geoff & Mary Grimish was something he was very excited about, “Counterattack comes with an incredible race record, his form is like an honour roll of all the major Group races”. Malone said “A son of Redoutes, from a Snippets mare who has produced two other Group 1 winners and is a type, Counterattack is a serious stallion proposition. He is late to announce that he will retire to stud this year, hence he will be very reasonably priced for this season.”
