No shadow over Black Caviar: Peter Moody

Wednesday 16 March 2016, 3:59pm

High-profile trainer Peter Moody believes his cobalt case should not cast any shadow over retired unbeaten champion Black Caviar.

Moody trained Black Caviar throughout her unbeaten 25-start career and says there is no reason the mare's reputation should be affected by the cobalt saga.

"She was great for the industry," he said.

"Let's get out there and look for the next Black Caviar and get along to the races."

Moody has been cleared of intentionally administering cobalt after Lidari returned a reading double the allowed threshold after coming second in the 2015 Turnbull Stakes.

He was found guilty of a lesser charge of administration and criticised by Victoria's Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board for "far from satisfactory" stable operations that led to the prohibited substance finding its way into Lidari.

A year ago Racing NSW revealed a sample taken from Black Caviar after her 2011 TJ Smith Stakes win had been cleared for cobalt.

Its stewards took the unusual step of publicising the result of the retrospective test to halt speculation the mare had raced with the controversial substance in her system.

Moody was grateful Black Caviar's reputation had been protected.

"I'm very grateful to (chief steward) Ray Murrihy and Racing NSW that they went back and undid the swabs on her and proved that ultimately she never received any illicit substance let alone cobalt.

"An opportunity was there for Racing Victoria to do that. They chose not to, for reasons I don't know, but thankfully Ray Murrihy did that and showed that there was never an issue with her."
