Damian Lane suspended for Classic ride

Saturday 9 January 2016, 6:28pm

Melbourne jockey Damian Lane has been suspended for 10 days for causing interference in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Lane, who rode Highland Beat, pleaded guilty to causing interference to several runners at the first turn in the $2 million race.

Jockey Ryan Wiggins was a two-time loser after being fined $1000 for a victory wave in the Magic Millions Trophy.

Wiggins thought he had won on Feltre who was beaten a nose into second place.

Stewards did not believe the wave had cost Feltre victory.

"I was sure I had won," Wiggins said.

Meanwhile, Sydney filly Faraway Town's owners are $325,000 richer despite the filly finishing only sixth in the Classic.

She was the first all-female owned horse over the line and earned the major share of the $500,000 bonus on offer.
