Lock's Legend continues Brisbane win spree

Saturday 10 October 2015, 4:58pm

In-form gelding Lock's Legend will get his chance in stakes company next year after achieving the rare feat of five open-company wins in a row on Saturday.

Lock's Legend gave apprentice James Orman a winning double when he won the Harcourts Green Living Handicap (2030m) at Doomben.

Trainer Brian Smith said he would ease Lock's Legend and set him for the Group Two Brisbane Cup next year.

"I won the race with Balmerino in 1976 and then had to wait 39 years for the next one this year with Jetset Lad," Smith said.

"But there might not be such a big break this time.

"I nearly spelled him after his last win but he has done too well."

Smith had a good galloper named Meet George who won five consecutive races in southeast Queensland in 2010-11.

"I was told Meet George died last night so it was probably apt that Lock's Legend has taken over. It is very hard to win five in a row and especially in the city," Smith said.

Former Sydney galloper Charge Account ($5.50) finally lived up his owner's big opinion of him with a display of sustained speed to win the EBD Training Handicap.

Charge Account clocked a sizzling 1min8.66secs and ran home in 33.33secs which made it impossible for the backmarkers to get near him.

The gelding was originally trained by John O'Shea in Sydney and ran in some handy races before a string of failures.

Owner John Cornish, the head of Torryburn Stud, decided to send Charge Account to Deagon trainer Doug Roberts last December.

"John had a very big opinion of Charge Account but there were some problems, nothing serious, with him. That is why he is up here," Roberts said.
