Trinder chasing more Melbourne success

Monday 3 August 2015, 1:58pm

Tasmanian trainer Adam Trinder has set his sights on more Melbourne success after the win of Valiant Warrior at Moonee Valley.

The four-year-old's victory on Saturday was the former leading jumps jockey's first winner in Melbourne as a trainer.

Valiant Warrior is expected to have his next start in Victoria later this month while on Saturday at Flemington, Trinder will saddle-up five-year-old mare At The Weekend.

"I've only raced a few horses over here (in Victoria). Valiant Warrior is the third horse I've brought over and I've got another mare to come over this week and she has form around Iggimacool," Trinder said.

"I'll bring the right horses over."

At The Weekend has won five of her 12 starts and will be first-up on Saturday.

She has not raced since finishing fifth to Launceston Cup winner Genuine Lad in a 2100m race in March.

At The Weekend was third to Iggimacool in the Listed Tasmanian Oaks last year and Trinder took heart out of Iggimacool's recent fast-finishing second at Caulfield for her new trainer Robert Smerdon.

Trinder gave At The Weekend a barrier trial in her home state last week in preparation for her trip to Melbourne for her first-up assignment.

"She's wound-up and she'll run in a mares benchmark 84 at Flemington over 1400 metres (on Saturday)," Trinder said.

"The 1400 seems her pet distance. She trialled during the week and trialled up nicely.

"She comes over and takes her opportunity at a big, roomy track. I'd be disappointed if she wasn't competitive."
