Cobalt show cause hearings open to media

Tuesday 28 July 2015, 4:53pm

The show cause hearings involving the five trainers caught up in Victoria's long-running cobalt saga will be open to the media.

Trainers Peter Moody, Danny O'Brien, Mark Kavanagh and the training partnership of Lee and Shannon Hope front Racing Victoria stewards on Wednesday.

They have been asked to show cause as to why their licences should not be suspended until their charges into the use of cobalt are heard before the RAD Board.

The Hopes have a date before the RAD Board on October 15 to have their charges heard, two days before the Caulfield Cup.

The other three trainers are awaiting directions hearings before their cases are heard.

The five trainers can apply to Racing Victoria stewards to have any evidence heard at Wednesday's hearing held in camera.

Stewards are also not bound to make a determination on the day and it may be made at a subsequent date.

The Hopes will be the first to front stewards on Wednesday, followed by Moody, O'Brien and then Kavanagh.
