Brad Rawiller still out with knee injury

Monday 22 June 2015, 1:14pm

Jockey Brad Rawiller is likely to be on the sidelines for at least another week as he continues his rehabilitation from a medial ligament strain.

Rawiller will have a better idea of his return date after he sees a physiotherapist on Tuesday.

He suffered the knee injury when he came off a horse in a pre-race mishap at Ballarat 22 days ago.

Rawiller was confident he was fit to ride at Flemington last Saturday week but after just one race he realised his return was premature.

The jockey says he won't be taking rides until he is confident he can fulfil his engagements and expects that to be some time next week.

"I'll see the physio again tomorrow," Rawiller said.

"I was hoping to be back this weekend but after what happened last time I don't want to come back too soon. I'm hoping on maybe next Tuesday or Wednesday.

"It's tough because if I'm going to ride on Saturday I've got to take rides now and at the end of the day I'm guessing.

"As soon as I know that I'll be right when I come back, then that's when I'll make a final decision on when I take rides."

Rawiller has ridden 108 winners this season and is third in the Victorian statewide premiership behind Dean Yendall (128) and Michael Walker (127) who has also been off the scene with back and kidney problems.

Rawiller said it was frustrating being on the sidelines and at the moment he was "just hoping" to be back next week.

"Hopefully I can get a bit of confidence tomorrow seeing the physio again," he said.
