Fulfilled Promise wins in Warwick Farm mud

Wednesday 17 June 2015, 4:27pm

Jockey Tim Clark was adamant Warwick Farm couldn't get any wetter after helping Fulfilled Promise through the mud on Wednesday.

"It's as heavy as you'd get," Clark said.

"It was very tough out there, especially for two-year-olds over 1400 metres. It was a real test for them."

Fulfilled Promise ($7) had been unplaced in four starts going into the TAB Place Multi Maiden Plate but she handled the going with a minimum of fuss to get the better of Cosmic Energy ($7) in a long-head win.

For the Anthony Cummings stable, it was a case of Fulfilled Promise delivering on raceday what she had shown in early-morning training.

"It was always a little confounding when, in her first two or three starts, she failed to live up to her trackwork," stable spokesman Edward Cummings said.

Different riding tactics used when Fulfilled Promise was beaten a length at Warwick Farm two weeks ago provided a clue to a form turnaround.

"Having her come back and switch off last start probably showed us it was the best way to ride her," Cummings said.

Stewards downgraded the track rating to the heaviest possible after the race but Clark said he wasn't sure if the filly was a genuine mudlark.

"She got through it to a degree. I wouldn't say she loved it but a bit of class probably shone through late," he said.

The race started with Stormy Benz dislodging his rider Jeff Penza who limped back to the jockeys' room complaining of a sore knee and was stood down from the rest of the meeting.

Stormy Benz gave himself an extended tour of the Warwick Farm racecourse before he was caught.
